fundraising
Once again a lot of people have gone to a lot of effort to make donations and raise money for the Team. It is not possible to list them all but a selection is given here.
As well as the £20,000 donation received from the Co-operative Charitable Foundation for a second Team vehicle, regular events have included the Cracken Edge Fell race, which this year raised over £860.00, and the Brookside Garden Centre collection which raised over £440.00. The New Mills Bonfire Committee donated £1,300.00 from the proceeds of this year’s bonfire and fireworks display and the Team also received a donation of £200.00 after covering the British Fell and Hill Relay Event 2004. Manchester Walking Women raised over £1056.00 for Team funds as a thank you for rescuing one of their members earlier in the year. One of the more unusual fundraising events was held in the Masons Arms, New Mills, where a regular held a sponsored hair cut raising £150.00.
A number of Mountain Rescue Teams have supporters’ groups that actively help their teams in activities such as fundraising, publicity and organising social events. Edale team has 200 plus members in their supporters’ group, known as Friends in High Places. Ogwen Valley is another example of a team with a successful supporters’ group, Treble Three (www.treblethree.org.uk). With Gateway to Kinder (G2K) now at a critical stage we will need a big fundraising effort. G2K – the project to build a new headquarters for the team in Hayfield – is likely to be moving from inception to development in the next few months.
The Team feel that there is good potential in organising a KMRT supporters’ group and would like to test the water by asking supporters who receive this newsletter if they might want to help in actively setting up such a group. If you might be interested please can you contact Chris Banister (fundraiser@kmrt.org.uk). Please don’t be shy – we need a good response so that we know this will be an activity worth putting time and effort into!
KMRT are very grateful to everyone who has made donations to the Team this
year and would like to thank them for their continued support.
