Santa Dash 2016 – event report
The morning of Sunday 4 December 2016 saw the sun shining brightly in an azure blue sky with ne’er a cloud in sight. It could have been the Med, except for the biting wind and the peat all around!
So it was that the annual Hayfield Santa Dash, organised jointly by The Hayfield May Queen Committee and Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, took place under (nearly) ideal conditions; dry underfoot, several Santas, no injuries and only one lost runner who turned up at the finish line shortly after – a grand day out.
First in was Damien Kilpin in an amazing time of 31 minutes and 31 seconds for the 6.5 km loop that took competitors past 20 Trees and the Shooting Cabin all the way to White Brow and back along the reservoir to rejoin their outward route. Hot on his heels was the first lady, Kate Davies in 25 minutes 24 seconds.
The under 16’s dash up to 20 Trees and back was won by Andrew McDonald in 7 minutes and 10 seconds and the first girl in was Amelia Aldridge in 9 minutes 45 seconds.
The Team were on hand to provide marshaling and medical assistance but, fortunately, the latter was not required. Santa kept everyone entertained whilst the runners were out on the course.
A big thank you from the organisers to all who lent a hand before, during and after the event.
Next year’s race scheduled for Sunday 3rd December – put it in your diary NOW and tell all your (running) friends.
