A request was originally received for our specialist Swiftwater Rescue Technicians to respond and assist via Oldham team, for flooding around the Delph and Saddleworth area. Upon deploying though, several teams were soon re-tasked to attend flooding in the Lower Broughton Rd area of Salford – certainly not somewhere we would usually expect to have to deploy our water rescue assets. Teams rescued people from flooded homes and took them to safety.
The SRT’s were finally stood down around 10pm – BUT – there was an immediate re-tasking of some teams to help with urgent evacuations/rescues in York, which was also hit badly after the Foss Barrier Pumping station was overwhelmed and they had to turn off the pumps and raise the flood barrier.
Kinder SRT’s are currently getting some well earned rest before any further deployment – possibly to York to assist with further evacuations, with more flooding expected Sunday and into Monday as river levels continue to rise.
