We were called to assist a lady with a broken ankle in the Crowden Head area of Kinder Scout. A passing walker found the casualty party and phoned 999. He was also able to provide a tent and sleeping bag for the casualty – great work, so thank you. The total casualty party was 10 adults and three children.
We were able to determine the exact position of the party from their mobile phone GPS. This was a remote location in the middle of the plateau. Facing a long carry in poor weather, we called for assistance from Buxton MRT, Edale MRT and the S92. The S92 attempted to reach the casualty site but was turned back by the very low visibility. We reached the casualty on foot and provided first aid. The rest of the party were warmed in our tent and then walked off the hill. We had a long (4 hour) stretcher carry to a waiting land ambulance at Upper Booth.
Huge thanks to the walkers who provided assistance, Buxton MRT and Edale MRT for the carry off particularly, and to the S92 for making the attempt.
